At FrankieOne, we believe in celebrating the diverse voices and talents that make our company strong. In honor of International Women’s Day, we launched our Women of Frankie series to spotlight the incredible women driving impact across our teams. As we wrap up the series, we’re proud to feature Jacqui Tan, our Chief Financial Officer, whose leadership helps shape the direction and future of FrankieOne.
Let's dive in..
What do you do at FrankieOne?
I’m the CFO at FrankieOne, which means I sit at the intersection of strategy, capital, and execution. I also oversee security, legal, revops, investor relations and commercial contracts. In practice, this means I have a broad view across both the administrative and commercial sides of the business, working closely with teams to balance priorities across strategy, operations, product, and people.
In a fast-moving fintech environment, there’s always noise and pressure. I try to focus on what truly matters, building a sustainable business, supporting our team, and making deliberate rather than reactive decisions (though I don’t always get it right!)
What inspired you to pursue your career path?
I’ve always been drawn to complexity. As a child, I remember taking apart a musical birthday card to get to the circuit board, frustrated that I couldn’t look further into where the music came from. This curiosity was never satisfied through my school life and ultimately cemented my resolve to do electronic engineering at university.
While I didn’t deliberately choose a difficult path at the time, I’ve come to realise that it benefited me and I have learned a lot from that experience. I deeply resonate with the Naval Ravikant’s idea of choosing the harder path when both options seem equally favourable. Often short-term discomfort leads to long-term growth (full quote here).
On the surface, finance can seem like it’s about numbers, but underneath, it’s really about understanding patterns, signals, and making decisions under uncertainty.
Over time, I’ve realised that purpose matters most to me. Staying present, not overly attached to outcomes, and making decisions from a place of clarity rather than fear, that’s what’s shaped my journey.
What’s a challenge you’ve overcome in your journey?
Like many people in leadership, I’ve had moments where the pressure feels constant, where everything feels urgent and high-stakes. The shift for me was learning not to be consumed by that mental noise. Stress comes from being trapped in future or past narratives, rather than what’s actually happening now. Once I started focusing on what is actually in front of me, things became more manageable, and paradoxically, I made better decisions.
What advice would you give to other women in fintech/tech?
Don’t let the external noise define your internal state. There will always be expectations, comparisons, and moments where you feel like you have to prove something. But the real strength comes from being grounded, knowing your value without needing constant validation.
Also, play the long game. Build substance over time.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
For me, it’s a moment to pause and recognise not just achievements, but the journeys behind them. The resilience, persistence, and the ability to keep showing up, especially when things aren’t certain. It’s easy to focus on outcomes, titles, and milestones, but what matters more is what it takes to get there. It’s also a reminder that progress isn’t just about external change, it’s about how we evolve individually and collectively.
We stand on the shoulders of the women before us. It wasn’t that long ago that my mum was told she couldn’t accept a full scholarship to study law because women were expected to become teachers or nurses. My mum thus became a teacher and that story is a reminder of how far we’ve come, and why it matters.
Thank you, Jacqui, for the leadership and impact you make. Your contribution helps shape FrankieOne in meaningful ways and we’re glad to have you on the team!
